The United States Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (U.S. EWHA) is an all-volunteer Minnesota non-profit organization started by a small group of friends from Minneapolis 23 years ago. With little knowledge of operating a non-profit organization or developing a hockey league, we began drafting plans during our free time from school and work. As players, our vision was to promote and develop the sport of wheelchair hockey, PowerHockey, in hopes of finding others who wanted to participate. The U.S. EWHA has come a long way since our small beginning in 1996. In 2001 we hosted an International PowerHockey Tournament with 11 teams. In 2004, 2008, and again in 2014 we hosted The North American PowerHockey Cup Tournaments with four, seven, and eight teams respectively.
Every year we hold our annual fundraising golf tournament. Our 23rd annual golf tournament will take place Thursday July 25th, 2019 at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake, Minnesota. We would appreciate if you would consider being a part of this year’s event. Last year’s golf tournament had over 90 golfers with over 30 businesses participating.
Funds raised through our tournaments silent auction and raffle will help us continue to promote and develop PowerHockey programs around the state and country. Our Minnesota PowerHockey League (MPHL) currently has three teams consisting of almost forty players. We also send teams to compete in various tournaments and events around the United States and North America.
We founded the U.S. EWHA because a very large portion of the disabled community was not being served, in regards to disabled sports and recreational opportunities. Our athletes are not served by the Special Olympics or the Paralympic programs.
