George A. Aivaliotis emigrated to the United States from Greece in 1950 and met his wife, Isabella. They settled in Gary, IN, where George worked for numerous industrial painting firms. He relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, in 1959 to work for the JL Manta Company. In 1966, George took the initiative to start his own industrial painting company. It grew steadily over the years to become a beacon in the industry and one of the major firms in the U.S.
George had an unparalled passion for the sport of golf and the absolute fulfillment that came with it. He revelled in out-driving and out-playing people half his age. By the time he was well into his eighties, George was unmatched on the green.
He loved his friends at Churchill Valley Country Club and Belleair Country Club. And, he was, in turn, loved and respected by all.
This tournament honors the memory of this prominent Icarian-American, whose life embodied the American Dream, and we dedicate it in his name. Help us remember the love we all share for the sport that was such a big part of George’s life.
The Helios Chapter of the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood is one of the largest chapters of the oldest Greek-American organzition in the United States.
Located in historic Dunedin, Florida, Helios Chapter 19 boasts members from across the Tampa – St. Petersburg – Clearwater Region, and more impressively, from across the country.
With its roots dating back to 1903, the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood works to preserve and advance Greek, and more specifically, Icarian culture and history, through philanthropic and social means – from the provision of scholarships in both the U.S. and Greece to the hosting of our annual Labor Day conventions, which bring together thousands of our Icarian brothers and sisters (and cousins and friends). The Brotherhood and Helios Chapter are also active in charitable endeavors on the Island of Icaria and around the globe.
