This June, come get in the spirit of golfing while supporting mothers and children in our care!
Your support for our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament will help us change the lives of our mothers and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Each year, 15,000 battered women and children in the Los Angeles County need a place to stay to heal from the traumatizing effects of domestic violence with only 1200 beds available for them. Our Shelter offers a transitional shelter model by allowing the families stay with us up to 18 months while they receive our critical and life-changing services.
Besides being the first domestic violence shelter in the city, Good Shepherd Shelter is also unique in that it is the only domestic violence shelter in LA area that provides an on-site elementary school and Adult Learning Center for its families. Our on-site school is unique and educates students from Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade with a trauma focused lens. It provides a much-required special place of learning that is cognizant of their needs, behavioral issues and learning difficulties. Our Adult Learning Center offers classes to the mothers to help them with their personal and professional development and to prepare them to become confident single parents and heads of their households. This is a pivotal component of our program because everything we give to each mother will have a direct and positive effect on each of her children both today and into their future.
