More Event Information

The Chris Roper Memorial Golf Tournament is held in memory of Chris Roper, who was killed in a traffic accident over the Christmas holidays in 1982. Chris, a native of Camden, Arkansas, was a senior at Northwestern State and the top golfer on the 1981 Demon Squad. He was a member of the Trans-American All- Conference team, placing ninth in the league tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament are used to fund two scholarships at Northwestern State. This scholarship is given in the memory of Chris Roper. These scholarships are given to two deserving students who are Health and Human Performance majors at Northwestern. Over the years this event has generated enough money to support two scholarships that provide $1,500 per semester for the recipients.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place teams. The tournament is a four-person scramble. Other events include the Closest to the Hole contest and the Long Drive.

Entry Fee:
$75.00 per player (includes cost of the cart, lunch, beverages, and green fees)
Mulligans will be sold.

For those of you that are coming in on Friday (April 27) and staying over the weekend, most of us stay at the Comfort Suites located just off of I-49 (take exit 138 and go east on highway 6).

Comfort Suites has given us a special rate, so when calling for reservations or checking in, mention that you are playing in the Chris Roper Tournament to get the rate. The phone number for Comfort Suites is (318) 228-8816.

Those of you wishing to stay at another motel should probably go ahead and make your reservation, there are several events going on at Northwestern State that weekend so rooms could be scarce. Those of you planning to stay at the Comfort Suites should go ahead and make your reservation also, they have set aside 15 rooms for us.
