More Event Information
In 2011 the first Calo Challenge Charity Golf Tournament was held at River Ridge Golf Course. This tournament was created in honor of Ed Calo, an avid golfer, who passed away that same year. In an effort to give back to a community that he loved, the golf tournament was born.
The Calo Challenge benefits the Ventura County Golf and Life Skills program at River Ridge Golf Course which has recently partnered with the Southern California Golf Association’s Youth on Course Jr. Golf Program. These programs allow for local Ventura County kids (ages 8-14) to practice and play golf and learn the discipline and etiquette that accompanies this sport. In addition, it includes a mentoring program that allows older kids (ages 15-18) to become mentors to the younger kids. In return, the program provides an opportunity for them to receive college scholarship money through the SCGA. These kids also are asked to assist with the Special Olympics and Special Needs Program.
The Calo Challenge Charity Golf Tournament started off as a tribute to a wonderful husband, friend and colleague and has quickly become a favorite tournament for our local golfers. We would love to see it continue to grow and benefit our community.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your donation is tax deductible.
