The mission of JCole Advocacy, Inc. is to be a community support partner Positively Influencing the Mindset of the community and caregivers through Autism Awareness and Education. JCole provides resources and support for funding, therapy, education, intervention, and practical application to caregivers and/or individuals navigating through life after receiving a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum. It also supports organization that shares the same vision.

Funding is needed to conduct research and development as well as launch a JCole Learning Academy that will educate families, caregivers, supporters, aspiring educators, and institutions of learning on the challenges and opportunities of individuals on the spectrum.

Each year, the JCole Advocacy identifies and organization that it feels Positively Influences the Mindsets of the community. In 2022, a portion of the Top Golf fundraiser was donated to Haven Academy at Skyview which is a Georgia Network of Educational and Therapeutic Supports (GNETS) program serving students with severe behaviors.

This year’s fundraiser with support Swim Life Fitness, which provides communities access to quality and impactful wellness and aquatic programming that focuses on addressing mental and physical health disorders.

JCole Advocacy will be sponsoring its Annual Top Golf Tournament and Fundraiser on Sunday, April 30, 2023 Top Golf Midtown 1600 Ellisworth Industrial Boulevard NW Atlanta, GA 30318 from 2pm to 5pm. Each bay accommodates 6 people and food, and non-alcoholic beverages will be complimentary. The tournament will be hosted by Topgolf Coach with PGA experience. Will your team reign as JCole’s Golf Tournament Inaugural Champions? It will be great fun and a great competition!

No worries if you do not play golf. It will be great fun for all, and we encourage you to take your best swing! If you would rather come and socialize, the spectator donation will be perfect for you. If you get the urge to take a swing, join the longest drive contest.

A portion of all donations is tax-deductible and JCole will provide you with documentation for tax purposes.

What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. Other causes are not yet known.

Signs & Symptoms

People with ASD often have problems with social communication and interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests. People with ASD may also have different ways of learning, moving, or paying attention. These characteristics can make life very challenging.

Diagnosis

Diagnosing ASD can be difficult since there is no medical test, like a blood test, to diagnose the disorder. Doctors look at the child’s behavior and development to make a diagnosis. ASD can sometimes be detected at 18 months of age or younger. By age 2, a diagnosis by an experienced professional can be considered reliable.1 However, many children do not receive a final diagnosis until they are much older. Some people are not diagnosed until they are adolescents or adults. This delay means that people with ASD might not get the early help they need.

Treatment

Current treatments for ASD seek to reduce symptoms that interfere with daily functioning and quality of life. ASD affects each person differently, meaning that people with ASD have unique strengths and challenges and different treatment needs. Treatment plans usually involve multiple professionals and are catered to the individual.

Meet JCole Advocacy, Inc. Sponsor, Jessica Darensbourg and her son, Jordan. who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Jordan is an Atlanta native and currently is a meteorologist with KVUE in Austin, Texas. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s at 3 years old and had an 18-month cognitive delay. One of the keys to Jordan’s success was early intervention.
