Golf Tournament
2021 marks a new era for us – a new way of thinking. We integrate music, art, dance, dialogue, education, social causes, business, fashion, empowerment, and entertainment all into one social stream of consciousness that we collectively call THE CULTURE.
The 1st Annual Juneteenth Jubilee Golf Tournament serves as the kickoff event for four additional festivals to occur this year. The Festivals of Art, Thought, and Culture offer opportunities for you to totally immerse yourself in a utopia of monthly, artful weekend experiences that will entertain, educate, inspire, and challenge you while supporting local artists. Your support allows us to keep the events affordable for the community at large so that all can benefit from our programming, regardless of income (or lack thereof).

Art Exhibition & Reception
On the occasion of Juneteenth 2021, The Fruit and partners are hosting an exhibition of visual art by Black artists. Some of the works are of famous, historical acclaim and on loan from regional and national private collectors, including sports heroes, celebrities, philanthropists, and corporate leaders. The works are not widely seen in public. The art will be displayed side-by-side with pieces from emerging artists from the Triangle area whose works will be available for purchase. The purchases are on a zero-commission basis, meaning 100% of the sale price goes to the artist. Visitors of all ethnicities are invited to join us!
The exhibition will be on display for four weeks; however, a limited number of guests will attend the first look on opening night. The opening night festivities will include pop-up performances, drinks, food trucks, socializing outside on our porch, and the unveiling of Durham’s newest Graffiti Tunnel. The Graffiti Tunnel at the Fruit is a 40’ passageway outside, painted top, bottom and sides for an immersive art experience. It’s a mix of patterns and colors that are viewable in daylight and also under florescent light after sundown. The work was commissioned by some of the region’s best artists. During the Juneteenth celebration, a huge, curved “cyc” wall, or infinity wall will also be revealed. Cyc refers to cyclorama, the curved track for indoor bike racing. Ours is modeled on the one found at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and they are popular with magazine photographers and videographers who want to give the impression of their subjects floating without a visible horizon. The cyc wall will be a welcomed addition for Durham’s artistic community.
About Juneteenth
Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on 19 June to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
The contemporaneous flair of Juneteenth Jubilee attracts diverse audiences from all over. The secondary goal of the event is to celebrate Black artists and to encourage a commitment to the collection of original art.
