More Event Information
Since 1925, Sigma Lambda Chapter has been a pillar in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the City of New Orleans. We are building on that strong legacy by continuing to prioritize brotherhood, service, leadership, and achievement. From A.P. Tureaud and Dutch Morial to Emmett Bashful and Charles Teamer, Sr., the men of Alpha Phi Alpha have stood up and helped lead at defining moments in our city for more than 90 years.
The Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity mentors New Orleans youth through our Alpha Youth Leadership Academy. The brothers work to give young men in the Greater New Orleans a brighter and more positive outlook on life. Currently, we partner with Warren Easton Charter School to mentor a core group of high school young men to ensure consistent engagement, support, and development. The brothers of Sigma Lambda volunteer/mentor one Thursday out of each month and host enrichment activities on weekends throughout the year. Participants in the Alpha Youth leadership Academy also qualify for priority consideration of the Alpha Phi Alpha scholarship foundation awards. Our aim is to cultivate self-development in minority men so they will become leaders of the next generation.
Each spring we award over $7,000 in scholarships to graduating minority high school seniors we have been accepted to a 4 year college or university. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help the chapter continue its scholarship and mentoring efforts.
