I am proud to be hosting a golf tournament for Lyme Disease to raise money for reasearch and education for Global Lyme Alliance.  The CDC estimates that in the U.S. Lyme Disease infects over 300,00 people each year.  Children are at the highest risk of contracting Lyme disease, especially those ages 3-14 since they love to roll around in the grass, play in leaves, run in wooded areas and explore the great outdoors.  200 children are diagnosed with this disease daily, which is equivalent to four school bus loads of students. I am advocating and raising funds for Global Lyme Alliance because this disease is under funded and under researched and the infection rate is raising at an alarming rate.

My journey with Lyme began two years ago, after a lengthy and invasive back surgery.  As my healing took place, I started experiencing many unusual symptoms that I had never felt before.  Vertigo,occular migrains, dizziness, sound senstivity and panic attacks to name a few.  Although these symptoms waxed and waned, I never felt quite right. Over the next year, I sought answers from doctors, specialists and therapists (14 to be exact) to only be misdiagnosed as having Occular Migraines, Meniere’s diesase, Bi Polar Disorder, Panic and Anxiety.  I was placed on numerous unnecessary, heavy duty prescription medications, that either did not touch the issues or only made my symptoms worse.  After finally consulting with my Chiropractor, he stated that many of my symptoms sounded Lyme related and that I should find a doctor that specialized in Lyme.  After an agonizing five month wait to get into a Lyme specialist, I was finally given my positive Lyme diagnoses. One year later, I still fight this battle daily which has affectively been in my body for a decade.  Lyme Disease has turned our world upside down…….. having to resign from my 14 year teaching position, losing realtionships with close friends, missing out on quality time with my son and husband and the misconception that this disease can cause this much devastation.  This is why I have teamed up with Global Lyme Aliiance to raise awareness and help others who are currently going through these same sitautions with no place to turn and having that feeling of complete hopeleness.
